The Z-Stick 7 can be backed up using PC Controller 5 from SiLabs which allows you to backup and restore Z-Stick 7 memory between any Z-Stick 7 or Series 700 Z-Wave USB Adapter. 


Before you can backup or restore your Z-Stick 7, you must download PC Controller 5.

Requirements

  • Windows PC (can be through a Virtual Machine)
  • Simplicity Studio 5 environment
  • PC Controller 5 tool (within Simplicity Studio)


If using a Virtual Machine to run Windows:

  • Make sure that you ensure that you have the Z-Stick 7 is passed through the Virtual Machine otherwise your Virtual Machine will not have access to the Z-Stick.
    • An Example via VirtualBox on how to pass through a USB 
  • This method is not fully supported and may take a few attempts to get a proper backup of your Z-Stick 7. 



Download PC Controller 5


You can find and download Simplicity Studio 5 and install PC Controller 5 following the steps outline in that link. 




Open and connect PC Controller 5


You'll need to open up PC Controller 5 from Simplicity Studios, it will be installed as a tool. 


  1. Open up Simplicity Studios
  2. Click on Tools.
  3. Scroll to the bottom and select PC Controller.
  4. Press OK.




Connect your Z-Stick 7 to PC Controller 5


To use PC Controller 5 with Z-Stick 7, you'll need to manually connect it, this is needed at least the first time. 



1. Click on the gear icon at the top right

2. Select the COM that Z-Stick 7 is connected to, it should be listed as "COMX: Silicon Labs CP210x USB to UART".

3. Click on OK at the bottom right. 




Backup your Z-Stick 7 using PC Controller 5



1. Click on NVM Backup/Restore

2. Select the Backup file path where you will keep your Z-Stick 7 network stored for future use.

  • Click on the folder icon next to "Backup file path"
  • Select a folder to save your file into
  • Make sure to name it with something like "Z7_Backup_02_21_2021"


3. Click on Backup

4. Take a quick sip of coffee, this should take about 10 seconds. It may take more time the larger your network is. 




Restore your Z-Stick 7 using PC Controller 5



1. Click on NVM Backup/Restore

2. Select the Restore file path where you keep your Z-Stick 7 network stored.

  • Click on the folder icon next to "Restore file path"
  • Select a folder you saved your backup files to. 
  • Then select the file that you want to restore to your Z-Stick 7. 


3. Click on Restore

5. Take a coffee break, this will take a few seconds to restore your network. It may take more time the larger your backed up network is.
