Quick start.

Getting your 10 Year Smoke Detector and Siren up and running is as simple as installing it and linking it to your Z-Wave network. The following instructions tell you how to add your 10 Year Smoke Detector and Siren to your Z-Wave network using an existing gateway.

Installation and mounting of Siren:
  1. Mount the mounting base on the desired place using screws to secure it in position.
  2. Remove the battery isolation strip from the wireless module. The red LED will start blinking to indicate it is powered on and ready to pair.

Using an existing gateway:

1. Place your gateway or controller into Z-Wave pair or inclusion mode. (Please refer to your controller/gateway manual on how to do this)

2. Tap the Z-Wave Button on 10 Year Smoke Detector and Siren once. (Press and hold Z-Wave Button for 3 seconds then release to pair without secure key encryption).

3. Your gateway should confirm if 10 Year Smoke Detector and Siren is successfully included into your network.

4. Place the Smoke Detector on the mounting base and turn clockwise. Now the Smoke Detector is armed.

Battery Change:

The battery of the wireless module will be empty much earlier than 10 years soldered in battery of the smoke sensor. To replace the battery:

  1. Remove the Smoke Detector.
  2. Pull off the wireless module from the smoke sensor from the Connector Pins.
  3. Now replace the battery.
  4. Re-plug the wireless module back into the Connector Pins.

Product Usage.

Wireless Reports.

10 Year Smoke Detector and Siren cannot be directly controlled, all reports are done unsolicited (without your gateway asking) and will report based on the type of alarm generated.

Smoke Detected.

This message will be issued to your gateway when smoke has been detected. You can test this report by pressing the test button.

Low Battery Alarm of Z-Wave board.

When battery is low, 10 Year Smoke Detector and Siren will report a low battery report to your Z-Wave gateway to alert you. The yellow LED will light up to give you a visual indication that your 1/2 AA (ER14250) batteries need to be changed.

Tamper Detected.

When 10 Year Smoke Detector and Siren is removed from its back mounting plate, the sensor will forward a tamper alarm to your gateway.

End of Life.

When this product needs to be changed out for a new one, the sensor will send an End of Life report to indicate that this sensor will need to be disposed of and replaced. This should happen after 10+ years.

Advanced functions.

Communication to a Sleeping device (Wakeup).

This device is battery operated and turned into deep sleep state most of the time to save battery life time. Communication with the device is limited. In order to communicate with the device, a Z-Wave controller is needed in the network.

This device will wakeup regularly and report a wakeup state by sending out a Wakeup Report. The controller can then empty the queued commands.

If the device was included by a Z-Wave controller, the controller will usually perform all necessary configurations. The wakeup interval is a trade off between maximal battery life time and the desired responses of the device.

To wakeup the device please perform the following action:

  • Double click the Z-Wave button to wake up the device.

Removing your 10 Year Smoke Detector and Siren from a Z-Wave network.

Your 10 Year Smoke Detector and Siren can be removed from your Z-Wave network at any time. You’ll need to use a Z-Wave primary controller to do this and the following instructions which will tell you how to do this using your existing Z-Wave Network.

This method can be used with any Primary Z-Wave Controller even if it is not directly paired to 10 Year Smoke Detector and Siren.

Using an existing gateway:

1. Remove 10 Year Smoke Detector and Siren from its back mounting plate.

2. Place your gateway or controller into Z-Wave unpair or exclusion mode. (Please refer to your controller/gateway manual on how to do this)

3. Tap the internal button on 10 Year Smoke Detector and Siren once.

4. Your gateway should confirm if 10 Year Smoke Detector and Siren is successfully excluded from your network.

10 Year Smoke Detector and Siren LED will start to blink at one second intervals to indicate it is ready to be paired to a new Z-Wave network.

Manually Factory 10 Year Smoke Detector and Siren.

This method is not fully advised unless your gateway has failed, and you do not yet have another gateway to perform a general unpair.

1. Press and hold the Z-Wave Button for 10 seconds.

2. (@ 5 seconds) the LED will begin flashing

3. (@ 10 seconds) the Siren will sound a short beep to indicate a successful factory reset.

4. Now release the Z-Wave Button.

Firmware-Update over the Air

This device is capable of receiving a new firmware 'over the air'. The update function needs to be supported by the central controller.

  • Once the firmware update process has started double click the Z-Wave button to confirm firmware update process.

Association Groups.

Group Association is a specific function in Z-Wave that allows you to tell 10 Year Smoke Detector and Siren who it can speak to. Some devices may only have 1 group association meant for the gateway, or multiple group associations that can be used for specific events. This type of function isn't used too often, but when it is available, you may be able to use it to directly communicate to Z-Wave devices instead of controlling a scene within a gateway which can have unforeseen delays.

Some gateways have the ability to set Group Associations to devices that have these special events and functions. Typically this is used to allow your gateway to update the status of 10 Year Smoke Detector and Siren instantly.

By default, your primary gateway should have been associated to 10 Year Smoke Detector and Siren automatically during the pairing of your Siren. For any case you have a Secondary Z-Wave Controller, you'll need to associate it to your 10 Year Smoke Detector and Siren in order for your secondary controller to update its status.

Group NumberMaximum NodesDescription
110Z-Wave Plus Lifeline
210Alarm Reports. All devices in this group will receive Alarm notifications (Smoke , Battery Low, Tamper)
310Switching Command. All devices in this group will receive a BASIC SET command on Smoke Alarms. Configuration parameter 3 and 4 will define the command value sent on alarm and alarm clearance.

Configuration Parameters.

Parameter 1: Siren alarm sequence interval

The additional siren is creating a different acoustic signal differentiate from the smoke alarm. This sound is partly on and partly off. This parameter defines the total length of the interval in seconds.
Size: 1 Byte, Default Value: 10

SettingDescription
6 - 127seconds

Parameter 2: Siren alarm tone length

The additional siren is creating a different acoustic signal differentiate from the smoke alarm. This sound is partly on and partly off. This parameter defines the total length of the sound versus silence within this interval. Please make sure this value is always smaller (shorter time) than parameter 1 that defines the whole sequence.
Size: 1 Byte, Default Value: 8

SettingDescription
1 - 99seconds

Parameter 3: Value of ON-Command

This value is sent as BASIC Set to Association Group 3 when an Smoke Alarm occurs.
Size: 1 Byte, Default Value: 99

SettingDescription
0 - 99BASIC Set Command
255BASIC Set Command

Parameter 4: Value of Off-Command

This value is sent as BASIC Set to Association Group 3 when an Smoke Alarm is cleared.
