Device association and how it works


Association allows 2 devices to directly link and communicate with each other as long as they are connected to the same AutoPilot server. The number of associations present depends on the device connected to AutoPilot server, typically only one association is present. Other devices may have multiple associations that perform various control types, such as turning a switch on and off without AutoPilot automations.


Security level of a device connected to AutoPilot matters between 2 different devices. If the the security level of 2 devices are different, they would not be able to communicate with each other.


Example


Door Window Sensor 7 highest security level is S2 authenticated.

Radiator thermostat highest safety level is S2 unauthenticated.

In this case, both must be connected using S2 unauthenticated.


AutoPilot server is always associated to association "1. Lifeline" of a newly connected device. This tells that device that it should communicate to AutoPilot server its primary functions. The security level does not matter for AutoPilot server as it supports all security levels.



b.
Program device association


Programming a device association allows this device to directly communicate to another connected device in AutoPilot server directly, without any use of AutoPilot automations. The association sends that connected device differs between the different devices.


Steps


1. In AutoPilot server, select "DEVICES" in the topmost menu.

2. Select the device that you wish to program association.

3. Select "Settings"

4. Select "Associationsto expand that menu.

5. Select "+" to add another device to the desired association group.

6. Select the device to be associated.

7. Select "Add" button.


Battery-powered devices must be woken up for AutoPilot server to program association.





c.
Update device association


To ensure that you have programmed your association properly, selecting "Update from Device" will allow that device to update AutoPilot server with any associations programmed to that device.


Steps


1. In AutoPilot server, select "DEVICES" in the topmost menu.

2. Select the device that you wish to program association.

3. Select "Settings".

4. Select Associations to expand that menu.

5. Select button "Update from Device".

Battery-powered devices must be woken up for AutoPilot server to update the devices association list.




d.
Remove device association


If an association that is programmed to this device is unwanted, you can simply remove that association from the device.


Steps


1. In AutoPilot server, select "DEVICES" in the topmost menu.

2. Select the device that you wish to program association.

3. Select "Settings".

4. Select Associations to expand that menu.

6. Select "X" next to the device you want to remove association of.


Battery-powered devices must be woken up for AutoPilot server to remove the association.
