Pre-installation checks.

  • Works with regular 3-way on/off for 2 locations control. Can only be connected with a regular 3-way on/off switch; do not use to control a smart switch or any other kind of connected or remotely controllable switch, nor a dimmer switch

  • The colors of your wires may not match those in our diagrams; ensure you've identified all wires correctly based upon their source and not just their color

  • Check your original 3-way wiring circuit prior to installation and then follow the wiring diagram options in this manual

  • The switch requires a Neutral for installation

  • Do not wire to a receptacle/outlet.

  • Use 14 AWG solid core wires.

  • Ensure Load compatibility (Must not exceed maximum load)

  • Voltage: 110/120VAC only

  • Maximum Load

    • 960W LED, CFL, Halogen, Incandescent

    • ½ HP Motor

    • 1800W (15 A) Resistive

Wire illumino Switch.

There are 3 methods to wiring illumino Switch. You can view their direct and more detailed instructions and videos at the links below:

Before you wire.

  1. Life saving: Shut off electricity at the circuit breaker. If installed in a multi-switch box, turn off all circuits. Confirm power is off using a voltage tester to check the live wires and terminals for power.
  2. Detach any existing light switch you are replacing.
  3. Wire your Switch using the diagram that follows as it befits your installation.

Note: When wiring, make sure that you pull all wire ends into the holes rather than around the screws.

    Note: Ground wire is not used in any of the diagrams below;

Do not use the ground on the external dumb switches, the ground connection should only be connected to the Illumino ground port (located at the top of the Illumino).

If you choose not to use ground, make sure to have it capped off.

Single pole wiring.

Diagram for single pole wiring.

The below diagram utilizes colors that are typical to live and neutral and general wiring in US homes, but in some cases, some wires do not use the typical color. If in case this happens, please consult an electrician to see if it is possible to wire illumino Switch into your walls.

3-way wiring.

The below diagram utilizes colors that are typical to live and neutral and general wiring in US homes, but in some cases, some wires do not use the typical color. If in case this happens, please consult an electrician to see if it is possible to wire illumino Switch into your walls.

Wiring Method 1 - If Load and Breaker are separated in different gang boxes.

  • Gangbox 1 - contains AC Live and Neutral.
  • Gangbox 2 - contains Load and external switch.

Wiring Method 2 - If Load and Breaker are present in the same gangbox.

  • Gangbox 1 - contains AC Live, Neutral, and Load.
  • Gangbox 2 - contains an external switch. (can be 2-way, 3-way, or momentary push button)

Finalize your wiring.

4. Make sure all screws are tightened.

5. Fit Switch within the wall box, affix it in place, and then install any faceplate as needed.

6. Turn electricity back on at the circuit breaker.

7. Test Switch by tapping the top and bottom paddles to turn the wired lights on or off.
